Miura - Digital Media Content Ingester

  • Rapid Access to Material
  • Simplicity in Operation
  • Future Proof Software Architecture
  • Cost Effective Bulk Ingest

The Blue Lucy Miura is part of the latest generation of audio and video ingestion tools which represent the new order in broadcast and professional media file based content acquisition. The Miura is a self contained single channel ingest device designed for cost effective capture of tape or live stream (SDI) video and audio material in standard and high definition.

The Miura accepts and SDI signal and writes a full resolution MPEG-2, MXF (OP1a) wrapped master file together with a lower resolution, frame locked, browse quality proxy. A low resolution monitoring stream is also created and published.

Rapid Access to Material - The Miura ingests video to an MPEG-2 MXF (OP1a) wrapped file and a frame accurate proxy in real time, so there is no waiting around for proxies to be ‘ripped’ from the masters, Miura also supports progressive download so content is available from the moment a recording starts.

Simplicity in Operation - In common with the Blue Lucy philosophy usability and ease of deployment has been paramount in the product design. Device control is via an intuitive software control panel with VTR deck emulation which can run directly on the host machine or any remote client PC on the business / production network. Deck control is provided via RS422 interface.

Deployment is simplicity too; attach the video / audio and Ethernet cables and switch it on – the user control panel may be downloaded (via IIS) from the device and installed on a suitable client (or the host server itself).

Future Proof Software Architecture - The architecture of the Miura not only allows an HD master and browse quality proxy to be written on a single device in real time but the compression and indexing components are pluggable, meaning that as new and more efficient CODECs become available Miura may be updated in a few minutes without needing to ‘retire’ the hardware. MPEG-4 Pt-10 CODECS are available for the Miura from early 2008.

Cost Effective Bulk Ingest - Connected to a facility, or broadcast play-out, networked attached storage the Miura may digitise all tape based or line acquired content for use across the facility without needing to tie up edit suites or play-out servers; and for the price of the most basic professional tape player.

Miura is available as shrink-wrapped software for uses to build their own devices against the recommended hardware bill of materials or built, tested and certified by Blue Lucy.
